No one doubts incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has an enormous task on his hands, but a £120million summer transfer budget is a decent route to kick-starting the turnaround.

The Ajax boss was finally confirmed as United’s next permanent manager this week, ahead of taking over the reins from interim coach Ralf Rangnick in the summer.

The highly-rated Dutchman put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Old Trafford, with the club identifying him as the man to finally turn their fortunes around.

The Manchester giants have failed to compete for football’s biggest prizes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary tenure came to an end in 2013, despite an estimated £1billion worth of investment in playing staff.

Now on an uncharacteristic five-year spell without silverware, United will be desperate for 52-year-old Ten Hag to end that drought, and The Times report his ammunition has already been decided.

The Dutchman will be given £120m to revitalize his squad, and reports suggest Ten Hag won’t be the only one making his way from the Netherlands over to Manchester.

Ten Hag is set to make moves for players from both of the Eredivisie and Champions League contending sides he’s crafted in Holland, as well as trying for an England international.

Following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool last time out, interim boss Rangnick suggested as many as 10 players could depart, with Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani set to leave this summer when their current deals expire .

In his first interview with the Dutch media since his job for next season was announced, Ten Hag said he wouldn’t have taken the job if he didn’t have a say in transfers.

“I make demands in advance before I arrive,” he explained. “If the club doesn’t grant them I won’t take the job.

“I am the one responsible, I am the one who will get judged by results. I don’t want to be a ruler, I will work together, but having a say in transfers is a condition for me.”

Those talks have reportedly already begun, with Ten Hag already looking to get two of his current players on his plane over to England.

Reports suggest thrilling Brazilian winger Antony is being lined up for £55m, as well as Argentine center back Lisandro Martinez.

The pair could be joined by one of the stars of Ten Hag’s squad that nearly made the 2019 Champions League final, with defender Matthijs de Ligt struggling at Juventus and potentially available.

Another player from that famous run, Donny van de Beek, will return from his loan deal with Everton, and could form a midfield with an England international.

The Times report that the club are still keen on West Ham’s Declan Rice, but the Hammers are holding firm on a £150m asking price, with Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips seen as an alternative.

Van de Beek could also be joined in midfield by Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay, who are named as current squad players to build around, along with Raphael Varane, David de Gea, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Ten Hag has been a regular proponent of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation during his time in the Netherlands, and here’s how that could look along with the stars he’s keen to use.
